Representatives of the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, in collaboration with a renowned physician from the Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Clinical Hospital of Urology in Bucharest, Romania, performed two surgical interventions – laparoscopic pyeloplasty and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy – on two patients from the Republic of Moldova.
The operations were performed at Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, within the University Clinic of Urology, Dialysis and Renal Transplantation, by Dr. Ion Dragomiristeanu, primary physician urologist, and Associate Professor Andrei Galescu, head of the Urology Department, assisted by other colleagues and resident physicians. The interventions took place in the form of an interactive workshop, thus offering young specialists and resident physicians the opportunity to learn and exchange experience in the application of modern minimally invasive techniques.
During his visit to Chisinau, Dr. Ion Dragomiristeanu had a meeting with the rector of Nicolae Testemitanu University, prof. Emil Ceban, the Timofei Moșneaga Republican Clinical Hospital director Andrei Uncuta, the deputy director Alexandru Ferdohleb and his colleagues from the RCH. The discussion focused on the surgical interventions performed jointly and on the results of this collaboration, carried out based on the Collaboration Agreement concluded between Nicolae Testemitanu University and Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest.
Dr. Ion Dragomiristeanu expressed his appreciation for the success of the intervention carried out together with the Urology Clinic team, noting that "it was a laparoscopic operation - a technique that is undergoing continuous development and improvement." At the same time, the Romanian doctor described the facilities in the Operating Room and the Intensive Care Unit as being at an exceptional level, comparable to those of some private European hospitals.
Rector Ceban, a urologist by profession, mentioned that "together with the team, we have implemented almost all the modern methods existing in urology, and laparoscopy is inevitably moving towards robotic surgery." The rector also emphasized the importance of expanding minimally invasive interventions in the field of urology, up to the laparoscopic treatment of prostate cancer.
The head of the department, Andrei Galescu, highlighted the large presence of resident doctors, who followed the operation with utmost attention and curiosity: "Young people are interested in this field and, especially, in the new minimally invasive treatment methods."
In conclusion, the RCH director Andrei Uncuta has emphasized that strengthening the collaboration with the University is one of the institutional priorities, established through a development program for the coming years. This program aims to modernize and provide the clinics within the Hospital with new equipment, so that the medical act is safe and of high quality.
